Here are some of the blocks of the quilt I'm making for my dad. He saw my Jubilee Quilt and asked if I could make him a quilt for his bed. He's never asked for anything before and there was no way I was ever going to say no. I decided to use what ever I had and not buy any thing. I've got 2" by 2" blocks, some 1" strips and I'm going through my rag bag once, using some, cutting some and then going through the rag bag again and I'm amazed at what I'm cobbling together out of scraps.

It will all make sense when I've made the entire quilt for him. At this rate, he'll get it for winter, though looking out of the window at the limbo dancing trees, he could probably do with it now! I have the stove lit down stairs and have a busy weekend of a jumble sale and collecting wood. The usual lovely bits of my funny life.
Until tomorrow,
Love Froogs xxxxx
Its beginning to look really good, I am sure he will love it when its finished.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and fabrics! I'm really enjoying your blog-my husband just retired and we will need to start living more frugally to make sure we have enough for the next 30 or so years. I plan to put your recipes and ideas to good use!
ReplyDeleteSome lovely patterns in your quilt, I especially like the way you use the striped squares in different directions, I must remember that! Luckily a charity shop has just opened in our village and although the shirts are expensive it is such a good cause I have bought several and have just finished my first block - paper piecing as I don't have a cutting mat or rotary cutter - I think I am hooked! I do have to ask as I am a little concerned about mixing old and new fabric when it comes to washing the quilt does the new fabric pucker up or should I wash the new before I use it? Thankyou for your inspiration and look forward to seeing more of your great quilts.
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous - can't wait to see the whole thing

The deep blue fabric is gorgeous x you have a certain flair for this :-)
ReplyDeletewow, I get it - how you make a pieced top. I usually do the same piecing pattern over the whole top, but I love what you're doing (I guess I did something more random with this quilt: http://thriftathome.blogspot.com/2010/04/kims-quilt-revealed.html)
ReplyDeleteBut I like your approach a lot because it uses up SCRAPS of which I have a ton.
I'm clearing out my sewing room & have found some quilt fabric, I'll pop it in the post to you.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours of this new quilt. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.
